Kathmandu, Jan 9: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, has said the government was working for the interest of cine artists. The ministry would extend utmost support to resolve the problems faced by Nepali film industry and cine artists, he vowed.

The Minister made such commitment at an interaction organized by the Film Development Board on ‘Future of Film Sector’ at its office, Chabahil on Friday.

“We’re not only hearing the problems shared by cine artists but also implementing the genuine suggestions,” he informed, adding that a bill designed to amend and integrate the laws on film, which was forwarded to the National Assembly, would be an act much sought by the film industry.

The clause-wise discussion on the film bill was held for 10 days with the participation of ministry representatives, including secretary, according to him. He informed that the Film Development Board would be an autonomous body after the new law comes into effect.

The Minister further shared, “We are working untiringly for the reform in this sector by exercising our rights and jurisdiction. The present censor board will be named a verification committee and it will have an expert as its chair.”

Cine actor Sunil Thapa was handed over an identity card as a distinguished cine artist.

On the occasion, Ministry Secretary Radhika Aryal said the ministry was enforcing the suggestion provided by cine artists through the Film Development Board. The coming film act will remain relevant for 20 to 25 years, she argued.

Board Chairman Dinesh DC informed that the Board was preparing to hold 11 programmes as orientations in view of the need of cine artists.
