Kathmadnu, April 16: As many as 46 Nepali, who had gone to Cambodia after being coerced into the promise of foreign employment, have been brought home after rescue.
According to the Embassy, people have been rescued with the facilitation of the Nepal Embassy in Bangkok, the government of Cambodia, Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) on April 13 and 14.
It has been found that the rescued Nepali were forced to work in the online scamming center, in casinos illegally, and some were without a visa, and some with an expired visa.
Efforts are being made to bring other Nepalis in dire situations home.
The Cambodian government has brought strict laws into effect for involvement in online scamming.
According to the law, persons working in such centers are subject to a minimum sentence of two years to life imprisonment and a fine of between 125,000 and 500,000 US dollars, depending on the nature of the crime.
The embassy has once again urged Nepali who are staying without a visa or whose visa has expired to return to the country as soon as possible.
Similarly, the Nepali Embassy in Bangkok has stated that there are complaints that passports of those employed in scamming centers are confiscated or lost by the company, and that in such cases, there is a provision to rescue them by issuing free one-way travel permits.

There has been a significant rise in Nepali entering Cambodia.
101 in the year 2021, 1,977 in 2022, 2,940 in 2023, 6,404 in 2024, 9,677 in the year 2025 visited Cambodia on a tourist visa, as per the reports.
The embassy has urged everyone to go for foreign employment only with a work permit as per the criteria set by the Nepalese government and not to engage in illegal work in countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and others on a tourist visa under the lure of quick and high income.
