Construction has begun on a 50-km section of the Qaisar-Laman ring road in western Afghanistan’s Badghis province, the Ministry of Public Works said on Saturday.
The project, with an investment of more than 4.6 billion afghanis (over 71 million U.S. dollars), was launched in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar. It is expected to be completed within three years, the ministry said in a statement.
The new section will run from Muqur district to Bala Murghab district in Badghis province and is being financed entirely by the Afghan government, according to the statement.
The ministry said the project would generate employment for both skilled and unskilled workers. Upon completion, it is expected to improve mobility for residents, facilitate the transport of commercial goods and agricultural products, and reduce transportation costs in the region.
The Afghanistan ring road is a strategic national artery linking 16 provinces and will play a key role in improving transport links, reducing travel times and costs, boosting trade and enhancing access to services across the country.
