30 sheep and goats killed, 38 goats missing in lightning

Bajura, April 30: Livestock farming is a major source of livelihood and income for the people in hilly and upper-hilly region of the country. But, recurring natural disasters have posed serious threat to livestock.

Latest in the disaster causing huge damage to the livestock property was killing of 39 sheep and Himalayan goats in a lightning occurred in Bajura on Wednesday.

The cattle were struck by thunder bolt while they were taken to Jorusaini forest of Swamikartik Khapar Rural Municipality-1 in the district.

As it was raining, the sheep and goats were in a cave which was hit by the lightning. It killed 39 sheep, according to Naresh Bahadur Shahi, police inspector at District Police Office. A team of police persons has been sent to the incident site to take stock of the situation, he added.

On Tuesday as well, the herders were trying to take the cattle back to home after grazing, but the disaster befell them, killing 13 goats. Thirty other goats went missing in the incident. On the same day, a local Kul Bahadur Saud lost three goats in the enclosure at Koyalek of Triveni Municipality-9.
