Discrimination-free society is foundation for prosperous Nepal, Vice President says

Kathmandu, June 4: Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has viewed that a discrimination-free society is the foundation for a prosperous Nepal and has appealed to all to remain equally aware of this fact.

In a message of best wishes to all Nepalis on the occasion of the National Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and Untouchability, 2083 BS today, the Vice President said that the constitution has defined racial discrimination and untouchability as a crime and has ensured equal rights and opportunity to all citizens but only legal provisions were not sufficient for this rather social awareness, cultural transformation, education and proactive role of citizens were equally imperative.

The National Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and Untouchability is marked on 21 of the Nepali month of Jestha every year to commemorate the day when the government declared the country a ‘caste discrimination-free nation’ on Jestha 21, 2063 BS.

Vice President Yadav has stated that this day is an important day to ensure social justice, equality and human rights, adding that every citizen has the right to live with equal opportunity and dignity – a foundation for a civilized society.
