Washington, May 8 : Several members of the United States Senate stated that the messages issued by Israeli forces to civilians in Lebanon ordering large-scale evacuations constitute a violation of international law.
A total of 12 Democratic senators sent a letter to the United States Central Command requesting answers on whether there had been coordination with Israeli authorities regarding the extensive evacuation zones in Lebanon.
According to US media reports, the senators said that issuing evacuation warnings has been used as a method to permanently displace people and destroy homes and towns, noting that some civilians who refused to leave their homes in those areas were later killed in subsequent airstrikes.
The senators added that declaring evacuation zones does not exempt Israeli forces from what they described as the absolute legal responsibility to determine that every individual and civilian facility targeted by drones, fighter jets, and weapons fire was, in fact, a military target.
They said the practice has been associated with the deaths of thousands of civilians and described these areas as kill zones.
