Ministry directs to manage employees working on contract

Kathmandu, July 17: The government has directed concerned ministry, commissions, secretariat and offices to manage employees working on contract basis in the approved number of staff.

The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration issued an instruction today as per the decision of the Cabinet meeting on Thursday to implement the provision on employees working on contract basis.

As per the instructions, contract employees that were retired from public services or are taking pension are to be discontinued from the contract service effective from today, July 17.

According to the point number 2 of the instructions, the contract with the employees working on contract, except for retired and pension holders, is to be renewed by the office they are employed and they be kept in pool, and records of all this should be updated by the general administration ministry.

After approval of the O&M of the concerned office, the contract employees should be assigned to work as per need.

The employees kept in pool are to be employed in offices where the need arises for contract staff.

Point seven of the instructions states that the general administration ministry will conduct a study and make recommendation within a month about facilities to be provided to the working contract employees in case they are to be laid off and the pay and perks for the contract employees to be hired in future.
