
Kathmandu, May 1: Chairman of Nepal Samajwadi Party (Naya Shakti) and former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has said that the physical and mental labours of all labourers should be highly respected.
Addressing a programme here today organized by Nepal Socialist Trade Union Federation and Nepal Samajwadi Newa: Association on the occasion of the May Day, the former PM complained that the communist leaders tend to forget the issues of labour rights and welfare once they reach the helm of the power. He argued that the intermediaries and commission seekers have ruled the roost instead of the real workers.
Saying that federal democratic republic system was established in the country due to the struggles of labourers and general public, Dr Bhatarai said failure to the address the workers’ genuine concern was unfortunate. On the occasion, Dr Bhattarai reiterated that directly elected presidential system and fully proportional electoral system should be embraced for political stability and economic prosperity in the country.
Likewise, Dr Bhattarai shared that he talked about deepening Nepal-India relations during his recent visit to India and revealed that he asked the Indian leaders not to get misled from the illusions spread by the pro-monarchists.
